First day of school

What a trip. It was just like I remembered it, but I didn't have any new clothes to show off. Also....

Observation of the week:
When you really think about it - aren't "Swiss Army" branded products the most ironic thing you've ever heard of in your life? For an army that has essentially been inactive for about the past 500 years (they last went to war in 1515 and, big surprise, were soundly defeated by the French & Italians. A good sign war was not their strong suit), they certainly have designed a lot of weapons, accessories and luggage. Perhaps the manufacturing sector of the country should double as the military? They do make a quality product.

My stock pick of the week:
NYMagic (NYSE: NYM). An undervalued stock in an unattractive industry (Marine & Specialty Insurance). Limited debt, significant dividend (.32/share) and currently trading at only 7x earnings. A buy and hold (1-3 years) move. Oh...and they are also very near their 52-week low.

Welcome to my blog! I am hoping to use this tool to keep in touch with all of you during my 6-month sabbatical. It is going to be a busy time, but a new perspective as I'll be in the role of a full-time student for the first time in almost a decade.
